3 COMMON MYTHS ABOUT SCALES AND WEIGHING

Do you want to know more about weighing? Find out some myths about the process with us so you can learn more about scales and make better decisions when it comes to choosing weighing equipment and even in the moment to weigh your items.

At first sight, a scale looks like a simple object. After all, weighing is part of our daily life, either when we prepare a recipe in our kitchen or when we go shopping at the supermarket.

But, actually, scales and the weighing process are way more complex than they look like.

And from there arise several myths that it’s important to deconstruct so that you can make more conscious and careful decisions at the time of choosing your weighing instruments and even weigh the items in your business.

Learn about some of those myths with Balanças Marques and get to know a bit more about the world of weighing.

#1 – “Scales are all the same”.
It is often said “not to judge a book by its cover”. With the scales it’s the same.
Behind a structure that can be similar and with the goal to weigh, each type of scale has their own components that makes them appropriate to respond to specific challenges.
From precision scales to commercial sales, from platforms to weighbridges, all weighing instruments have their features (weight, tare, label printing, etc…) and characteristics (as the range and division), serving to weigh different objects and to fit into different contexts.

#2 – “External factors don’t interfere with weighing”.
When we talk about weighing, it seems that only 2 factors come into the equation for the result: the mass to weigh and the scale itself. However, it’s not like that.
Weighing equipment are objects sensitive to various external factors that, one way or another, may end up interfering on their performance.
The temperature, humidity, vibration fonts and even gravity are just some of them. For this reason, the place where you install your scale counts a lot to achieve reliable results.

#3 – “Scales don’t need maintenance once installed”.
Weighing equipment are part of everyone’s daily life in such way that, once installed, almost seem not to need attention. Which is not true.
Scales are exposed to multiple factors during its use and, for this reason, need maintenance to always have the desired reliability
In the first place, scales should be cleaned regularly to ensure that there’s no dirt influencing the results. Besides, the weighing equipment should always be well leveled (if applicable) and be subject of calibrations to ensure they keep the required accuracy to their operations.

Now that you’ve found out these common myths about scales and know a bit more about this world, you’re more prepared to make your choices of weighing instruments and even to use them on a daily basis.
