More than of awards and anniversaries, more than of conquers and twists, Balanças Marques’ history is made of people. Of the people who started the company, of the people who gave – and still give, every day, - a little bit of themselves to take it one step forward.
Among them are, since always, “our” women.
From 1967 until today, there have been a lot of women here. Each one left their mark in our history. And, this month, we want to honor them.
Because they were and are really important in our path.
Because their fight for equality is ancient, but it’s still equally fair.
Because, as United Nations proposes, we are Generation Equality too – we want to realize women’s right for a future with equality and for a sustainable development.
Maria da Conceição Barbosa
It’s said behind a great man there is always a great woman, but that’s not true. Maria da Conceição Barbosa is a great woman and she was never behind the great man José Pimenta Marques is. She has always – always – been by his side. It was with joined hands that they both faced each fight and each conquest.
When he decided to go into the adventure of starting his own company, Marques family’s patriarch relied on his wife’s constant support and also with her strength. After an entire day working and after putting the children to sleep, Maria da Conceição Barbosa joined him on small scales workshop to carry boxes and contribute with whatever was necessary.
In 1967 and over the first few years, she was, along with José Pimenta Marques, the pillar that launched and led to the success of the company as we know it today.

They grew up among scales, weights and a constant load of work, with their parents, José Pimenta Marques and Maria da Conceição Barbosa, and their two brothers. Each one followed her own path. But, eventually, their lives led them both to their family home.
Today Alice and Maria José Marques work here, in the company.
Alice takes care of our finances like no one else could. She is always on top of each payment and nothing escapes her attentive look.
Maria José has under her responsibility the commercial tasks of one of the companies of Grupo José Pimenta Marques. And she is also one of the planners of our big events, such as the Christmas Dinner and Family Day.
Without them, nothing would be the same. Each one contributes to take the company a lit bit forward and to make this Group a true family.

Balanças Marques as we know it wouldn’t exist without the work of all the female employees that passed by. On their own unique way, each one left a piece of themselves here.
And, every day, “our” women reveal to be essential to this company’ success.
How would we manage our accounts without the efficiency of our Financial Department or the quickness of our Administrative Department? How would we get organized without our women on Production, Quality and Logistics? How could we help our customers without our Technical Support team? Well, you get our point, right? Truth is we can’t imagine our world – our Balanças Marques – without any of the women who work with us daily and we feel the need to thank them for their dedication!
On this month of International Women’s Day , we leave our thank you to all those who were a part of our company’s history.
