2022 is a special year for us. Balanças Marques completes 55 years. 55 years of much work. 55 years where there’s room for many stories with ups and downs, family moments and several dreams. Find out more about our journey!
Founded in 1967 by José Pimenta Marques, Balanças Marques was born from his willingness. It was an entrepreneurial – and risky – measure that started at the garage of a house as so many others. With a dream, like so many others, to build a better life for the family.
But his story stands out because it was, from the start and until now, ruled by a sustainable development, innovation, and success.
1. A dream with 15m2
It all started on a workshop with 15m2.
Going back to his roots – to his mother’s old job, Idalina Pimenta – José Pimenta Marques dedicated himself to building small roman scales, especially for agriculture.
And, on his motorcycle or, later, in his truck, he traveled miles and miles to deliver them to several points of the country.
He fulfilled his goal. He reached the dream with which he began Balanças Marques.
2. An unimaginable dream that came true
At the cost of hard work, dedication, and creativity, he built, step by step, a successful company. A successful company that, on the 2010’s was entirely put on the hands of his four children.
They’ve grown with the company. They started having an active role at Balanças Marques in the 80s. And, today, they take over the administration together, alongside with sons/nephews.
Together, they’ve taken the company built by their father and grandfather to the top.
We have now over 10.000m2 between the facilities in Portugal, Spain, France, and China. We operate in more than 20 markets. We’re the biggest scales exporter on the country. As the cherry on the top of the cake, we were considered the World’s Best Weighing Company in the 2019 and 2021 editions of Weighing Review Awards.
3. A dream always in construction
What we’ve conquered up to now doesn’t stop us from dreaming.
Now with 2 generations of the Marques family and 150 more employees working at the Group, we intend to continue growing and going further.
Over the next few years, we hope to remain at the weighing forefront, with high tech solutions. We plan to bring Marques equipment to new markets. We want to attract more and more talents to join our team.
Our strategy for the future is to put to use of the entrepreneurial and ambitious spirit and the DNA that has always characterized us.
