Since the beginning of Balanças Marques, women have been a part of its history. And, in 2022, after 55 years, there’s an increasing number of women who are a part of this Family and who leave their mark on our Group.
It was José Pimenta Marques who founded our company in 1967. But he was inspired by his mother, Idalina Pimenta, and her scales-manufacturing workshop, to start a business in the same area. It was with the unconditional support and work of his wife, Maria da Conceição Barbosa, that he made Balanças Marques grow.
Since the first steps that women are a part of our journey. Each one of them left (and leaves) their mark on the company.
Today, among them, there are two daughters of the founder, Alice and Maria José Marques, a granddaughter, Patrícia Marques, and several dozens of women that play fundamental roles in diverse areas such as Costumer Support, Assembling, Quality and Commercial Department.
Since 1967 to 2022, the year we celebrate our 55th anniversary, our Family has grown, and even more women are a part of it.
Working in industry, a male-oriented sector where, in 2020’s Portugal, only 15,5% of women are employed (according to the data from INE – National institute of Statistic), at José Pimenta Marques Group, we have a growing number of women participating actively on our history, as the numbers show:
• Currently, 23% of our employees are women. A number that increased considerably compared to 2019, year in which we had 18.35% of women, and that met the biggest increase of the last years in 2021.
• Among 34 women on the Group, 20, that is, more than 58%, are mothers. And 6 of them benefited from the birth prize that we give to the employees that, being in the company for over 2 years, have a kid.
• Around 18% of the women in our Family have more than a decade of history with Balanças Marques, having built their careers with us, while others, around 12%, have joined us more recently to start their professional path here, with curricular and professional internships.
• Today we count with a heterogeneous group of women, in an age range that goes from 18 to 56 years: 35% is more than 40 years old and 61% is between 20 and 40.
We can only thank each one of them for working with us and contribute daily for our growth and for the increase of the number of women on the industry sector.
