At Balanças Marques, 2020 was the Year of Sustainability and of EcoMarques project. In spite of the pandemic, in spite of the changes in plans and all the contingencies, we were able to get our message through. We were able to give our contribution to the preservation of the environment and for the “17 Sustainable Development Goals”, defined by the United Nations. We were able to organize and carry out several initiatives that we are going to revisit today.
We started 2020 with loads of plans. We wanted “Sustainability” to be the word that would define our year. We knew the path we intended to follow. But the pandemic forced to change and even cancel the initiatives we had thought of. And, still, EcoMarques project hasn’t stoped.
Throughout the year, we carried out several different actions for the environment. Accompany us on a “throwback” to each initiative!
• We adopted a piece of the Este River
Right on the beginnig of the year, we joined Projeto Rios and we became “godparents” to the piece of the Este River that flows next to our headquarters in Celeirós, Braga (Portugal).
• We created a garden.
Because all green spaces are good the planet’s balance, we planted several trees right in front of Balanças Marques’ headquarters and we hope that, soon, it becomes a place to be enjoyed by the whole community.
• We took part in events like Earth Hour.
Sure that together we have more weight on the fight for the environment’s preservation, we joined Earth Hour, on an international action that is also a symbolic but meaningful gesture.
• We delivered environmental-friendly school kits.
Likes every year, in 2020, Balanças Marques offered a school kit to the employees’ children, dedicating it to the Sustainability theme.
• We developed two books on Sustainability.
Meant for children and teenagers, these books intend to explain the theme and show them how they can apply it on their daily lives. And, besides coming with the school kits, they are also available for download.
• We used our social media platforms to raise awareness.
Taking advantage of the reach of online contents, we used Facebook, Instagram and our website and blog to show the importance of Sustainability to our employees, partners and followers.
• We colllected used goods.
To participate in the European Week for Waste Reduction, we collected used goods and ended up donating over 150 kg of objects to families in need who will give them a new life.
And, after a year like this one, we can only be proud of everything we achieved! This summary of our Year of Sustainability shows us that, even in 2020, we are able to be productive and motivates us to keep going with EcoMarques project. Because our Year of Sustainability may be almost over, but our commitment to the environment is forever, in the future, we want to continue contributing to the planet’s sustainable development.
