At Balanças Marques, we always were concerned about the environment. But, in 2020, we decided to really act on it and put together a plan with definite measures in favour of the Earth. Because the dada uncovered throughout the previous years reveal the astronomical weight human activity has on our planet, every day.
Our weight on the environment – the weight of what humanity does, produces and consumes – has been growing. It’s no longer possible to miss the impact and the negative effects our actions – the actions of all of us – have on the planet. The numbers on the scale show it, plain and simples:
• 4,94 million tons of urban residue were produced in 2018 – just in Portugal.
• 1,71 million tons of packages were thrown away, during 2017, in Portugal – and only 55% of those were recycled.
• Between 4,8 and 12,7 million tons of plastics annually end up on the oceans, all over the world.
And here at Balanças Marques we couldn’t be indifferent to this reality. We want to do our part to reduce these numbers. We want to do what we can. We want to be better to the world! For our company. For our community. For the future generations.
So, we waged on sustainability. Throughout this year, we have been investing – and we will invest even further – in environmentally-friendly products. We have been sharing dada about Earth’s health and tips in its favour – mainly with our employees. We have been organizing the initiatives that we can to appreciate and help Nature even more.
Today, it’s with pride we can say we are walking our way to have more weight on the conservation of the planet and less weight on the environment’s back.
